The symptoms of allergic rhinitis primarily affect the nose, but the mouth, eyes, and throat can also be affected. Dr. Mansfield, can you tell us about common symptoms of allergic rhinitis?

Absolutely, Dr. Flemings. The most common symptoms of allergic rhinitis include:

  • Runny nose
  • Stuffy nose due to blockage or congestion
  • Itching, usually in the nose, mouth, eyes, throat, or skin
  • Puffy, swollen eyelids
  • Watery eyes
  • Sneezing, and
  • Coughing

Other symptoms that can develop over time include:

  • Problems with smell
  • Clogged ears
  • Sore throat
  • Dark circles and puffiness under the eyes
  • Fatigue and irritability, and
  • Headache
